WOLF
? CLAUDETTE ADVANCES TOWARDS CAROLINAS ?
Claudette formed while we were sleeping last night, and while it may have weakened into a tropical depression (for now), it's still a formidable threat to the Carolinas as we move into Father's Day Sunday. Let's break down what to expect.
Heavy rain will begin to move into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area overnight tonight. This is when the HEAVIEST RAIN will occur. Scattered flash flooding will be an issue as a blanketing 1-4" will fall through the late morning hours Sunday. Localized spots could see even more than that.
By the afternoon, a low severe threat begins to sweep into the area as the center of circulation passes just to the south of the Metro. By this point, rain chances will bump down a bit. A few strong storms packing sporadic gusty winds and heavy rain are possible through the evening. The tornado threat is low, but we'll need to watch carefully for any spin-ups near the central circulation along and south of I-85.
We should largely dry out by Monday before a separate rainmaking system moves in by Tuesday.
BOTTOMLINE: While rain is certainly the main threat with Claudette, we'll have to watch out for quick spin-ups and gusty winds as well. Make sure you have multiple ways to get warnings should they arrive. Tune in at 6 & 10 for the latest!
