The year 1974 proved a monumental one for the Blue Angels. It not only brought transition to a new aircraft, the A-4 Skyhawk, but also redesignation as the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron. Since 1946, the Blues had operated as a team, not a full-fledged squadron.
