I watched Chopped Sweets today and the theme for the show was "Bizarre". And yes, the photo of the cow's feet WAS an ingredient in the second basket. What struck me the most about this episode was not the ingredients, but Chef Kayley. Talk about a hater! She had competed on regular Chopped and went home in the dessert round, strangely enough. Host Scott Conant asked her about that experience and she said, "The consensus is that I was robbed." Scott replied that they get that a lot, but that it was HER FRIENDS who said that, not the general public. Bam. During the first and second rounds as they talked to Kayley about what she was working on, she took every opportunity to slam fellow competitor, Chef Allison. The jealousy was palpable. And every time the judges would say something negative about Chef Allison's desserts, Chef Kayley would smirk or smile. She really needs to get over herself. I happily watched (and cheered), though, as Kayley got chopped in the second round as her dessert was "disjointed". She said to the judges, "Well, you asked for bizarre." Maneet Chauhan correctly replied, "We gave you bizarre ingredients and asked for delicious desserts." Bam, again. Of course as Kayley left, she said, "I don't agree with anything the judges said." Yes, go home to your friends, Kayley, and have them tell you how you were robbed again and how great you are. The best thing she could do would be some self-reflection. . .In the end, Chef Veronica won as she pushed herself to think outside the box (2nd round she made faux udon noodles out of panna cotta!) and correctly did what each round called for (brulee, smoke, whip). One thing that Maneet and Scott both told Chef Allison is that she needs someone to push her more than she pushes herself and get her to think outside her box. I believe that if she does that, she'll go far. She was so calm and cool during the entire competition, even finishing early in the last round (always a mistake, imo). Chef Veronica deserved that win!
