Yeah, I'm going to cross a line and express my personal opinion on gun violence. The exponential increase is rooted in many social ills to be sure, including mental health issues, economic issues, education issues, and drug abuse issues which are a part of all the above. A close investigation into major gun crimes in New York and Chicago reveals the majority were non police and the perpetrators didn't have a concealed carry permit. The majority were committed by felons in possession, and there's nobody to blame for that except a whining liberal society that feels obligated to rationalize bad behaviour on anything BUT the absolute truth. What IS the absolute truth? They have nothing to lose. Period. Three hots and a cot, TV privileges, free medical/dental, visitation, no work requirement, for now on at taxpayer's expense is not a deterrent to bad behaviour when you don't even have those things on the outside. The loss of freedom? Please. With CONgress and our tyrannical government passing new laws every day, we're already losing that. Back to the drawing board. Back to the days when the penalty was equal to or more than the crime. Kill somebody? They actually used to killed you back ! They actually passed legislation that guaranteed you your right to a fair and speedy trial, but with the backlogs and court appointed attorneys being so overburdened, you've got to waive that or you'll get no representation at all. You've got to have money to make the system work now, or a prima facie case that'll splash an attorney in the limelight. When activist judges prostituted our laws for political gain and notoriety, our system broke down. Now, to go murder somebody automatically gets plead down to second degree if you settle out of court, and the taxpayers have to come up with another million dollars over your lifetime to keep you locked up. Under more pristine conditions than you have in your life now. THIS is NOT the deterrent needed to solve the problems of today. Only true and non political law and order will return our nation to it's once proud status. The streets are filled with sex offenders, drug addicts, violent felons, thieves, and gangs. More and more laws protecting them are being passed every day. The police are being decimated by lack of support. The court systems are overloaded. No bail ensures criminals are back on the street to commit more crimes before the officer can even finish his report. The law has been bastardized so bad by the federal government it's no longer effective. Those areas that the feds go into to "reeducate" the police have triple the crime rates they had before. The solution is simple. Stop spending American taxpayer money on non Americans. Spend it towards solving the problem. Make the punishment a deterrent again. Hard labor. Chain gangs. Road worker crews. Make them pay their own way. Armed robbery? Forfeiture of any/all property you own and automatic 20 years at hard labor. Murder? If not death penalty, hard labor in a Supermax prison without priveledges until you drop dead. Punishment needs to HURT, or it's ineffective. Taking away the guns from law abiding citizens isn't the answer, it's a political agenda. Even if they DID take the guns, what's next? Bows and Arrows? Knives? Crossbows? Rocks? (Remember Cain and Able). It's pure insanity to ignore the most obvious solution !
