OVER 50 MILLION PEOPLE DIED.....A couple wearing masks in London during the pandemic of 1920 ? The pandemic of 1918 hit the world harder than anyone expected. People had been through illness and plagues before, but not in the modern era. Whenever a massive illness like the flu takes over the world in the way it did in 2020 and in 1918 it's a shock. It feels like something like this shouldn't happen in the modern era.Between 1918 and 1919 more than 50 million people died across the world, and 25% of the British population were wiped out. In England 228,000 people lost their lives to the flu, and it's believed that almost 20% of the world's population was affected. The one thing that kept the flu from spreading further? Masks. Just like in 2020 there was a push for people to mask up and keep their germs to themselves.
