My emplyer just received this warning text about his NYS Department of Labor (employee unemployment benefits). It is a scam, as the link does NOT go to a NY.GOV server. Look closely at the address. This is called a "phishing" attempt to get my employer to enter his NYSDOL credentials into a fake page, this giving the person who controls the page his username and password, giving them the ability to falsify unemployment applications, stealing MY unemployment benefits (in the unlikely event that i get unemployed). This is the exact same phishing thing that happens with malicious links claiming to be from Facebook that users receive in their facebook messages, leading them to click, try to log in (even though they were logged in to see messenger to begin with), and then end up with strange posts on their own timeline and a list of friends who received the same fake scam phishing message. All of this would be absolutely avoidable if users just double-checked the address in the address line after clicking a link, but a lot of users don't know better, and instead send out panic messages to everyone on their friends list or post that they were "hacked."They weren't hacked. They clicked a malicious link, and weren't intelligent enough to know the difference. Be intelligent. Look at the link and webpage address. Don't blame it on "hacking."PS. I called the NYSDOL to report the phishing scam, but they are overwhelmed right now, months begind on processing, and dont jave time to address it. They recommend that i call my LOCAL police. Unfortunately, as i work in the private sector i dont have time for it either. Be careful, folks.
