Many, many, MANY years ago I was fortunate to read an essay in booklet form by Russell Conwell originally published in 1890 entitled "Acres of Diamonds". I encourage each and every one of you to read this that haven't already. It has been SO many years ago, yet it STILL flashes through my mind now and again. It truly IS the answer to those who query " So what can I do?". I'm not going to even give a brief synopsis here because I don't want to give away one of life's greatest secrets to THEM. No worries, THEY only listen/do what they're TOLD on TV and social media, they won't look it up or even try for the Cliff's notes version. They'd rather go play video games, or watch vulgar, crass, and rude videos on TV, like the Grammy's. To them, the future is out of their control, and goals are only them sports thingies. Reading has become a dying art just as much as respect. These are the ones who live in the basement of their parent who was born in that house. The one they'll have to sell rather than lose it to the tax man in later years.
After they sell that house, in future years, they'll learn from experience the wisdom they could have gleaned from an essay. Most of US already gained this knowledge, usually from experience. I'll never forget the head slap I gave myself after I read it. Sure WISH I'd have seen it while I was younger ! Growing up, one of my favorite pastimes was grabbing a volume of our World Book encyclopedia, and thumbing through it. When I found something interesting, I'd read about it. Captions on pictures lured me into learning things I didn't think I was interested in. That, in turn, developed a reading habit. I'll never forget Mr. Morris, my seventh grade teacher who told me WHAT to read. ONLY THOSE BOOKS WRITTEN BY SOMEBODY WHO HAS ACCOMPLISHED WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. Before I start reading a book to this day, the first thing I do is flip it over and read "About the Author" or research his/her background. I don't need to read about some 20-something's theory about anything. Yes, I more readily identify with books written by males, just as women more readily identify with books written by females.
Remember Hitler burning the books? Why did he? That was the only way to scrub the information back then. Today, largely due to Section 230 remaining unaddressed, history is being erased and rewritten all over the internet. That's unfortunately sufficient for today's crowd, who don't/won't read. In a few years, the synopsis version of Orwell's 1984 won't even resemble what the book really contains. My HARD COPY will NEVER change. Yes, I've purchased MANY books for my son's future use. Including, but not limited to, the Left Behind series. Orwell. Og Mandino. A Lot of the classics. Books that represent morals, integrity, and responsibility. Autobiographies. Napoleon Hill. The KJV of the Bible. The one-year Bible. An NIV Bible. Time tested techniques that will always work. Absolutely nothing like "How to make MILLION$ in real estate" by somebody who isn't a millionaire. No theories. No get rich quick schemes.
I know reactions to this post will be slow, because if you've read THIS far, you'll research the essay. Then, you'll get it !
