Chris Murphy, assault is a behavior not an item. Assault, murder, rape, armed robbery, home invasions, mass murder, etc. are all already illegal. Yet, all those things still occur.Given that criminals will take advantage of the law abiding I would prefer if the law abiding were better armed, rather than less armed. I want every would-be criminal to be afraid that his next victim might shoot him in the chest and head, repeatedly until a 30, 50, or 100 round magazine has been unloaded into his body, then I want that law abiding victim to reload and to be prepared for more potential attackers: because this is the best incentive to not be a criminal. If it prevents one rape, one murder, one home invasion, or one robbery, I want more law abiding citizens to have "assault" weapons.Ever face multiple attackers? Having lots of loaded removable magazines and "high capacity" magazines is helpful to a civilian facing a home invasion, or a terror attack, or a mass murderer. The security at the capital has such weapons to protect you. That security team shot one of the multiple capitol rioters dead, in her tracks. Civilians should have at least the same hardware to protect themselves, their families, their homes, and their neighbors.Bugger off with your gun control. We don't want it. We don't need it.
