On this day in Texas independence history February the 11th 1836 Colonel James Clinton Neill relinquished his command over the Alamo mission and transportationed power to William B. Travis. Neill would leave to provide care for his family who was extremely ill. Many historians have harshly criticised Neill accusing him of abandoning men of the Texas militia. They often forget that just a year before he entered the militia as an artillery captain and fired the first shot on the Mexican enemy at the battle of Gonzales with the very cannon the Mexican dragoons came to take. It was that first shot that started Texians in the direction of Texas Independence. We remember you Colonel Neill, we remember Goliad, and we remember the Alamo! My fellow Texians give him a Texas shout!! #Texas #Independence
