It's satisfying to raise and butcher our own animals. I know what they've been fed, how they've been treated, and their medical history. We also feel it is important for our children to never be disconnected with the food they eat. Meat to them isn't faceless lumps in a plastic and Styrofoam container.

We have been raising chickens off and on for 6 years! Our children have definitely learned a new understanding of the life cycle ans a better appreciation for the food we eat!

Honestly, the butchering part wouldn't be satisfying to me. I'd probably take solace in the idea that I treated them well during their lifetimes, though.
