Today marks the 10th anniversary of Gary Moore's untimely passing. Perhaps the greatest guitarist that ever lived. A young guitar slinger from Belfast with a precocious talent for music. Cutting his teeth with Skid Row, earning the esteem of the legendary Fleetwood Mac guitarist and founder Peter Green and his Gibson Les Paul. On more than a few occasions Gary saved Lizzy's bacon by standing in for an out of action Eric Bell and Brian Robertson, only to replace the latter for what some might say is Thin Lizzy's 'magnum opus' 1979's Black Rose. Gary's inherent musicality and technical prowess are slathered lovingly over the song's on Lizzy's 9th album but alas this was Gary's last collaboration with Thin Lizzy. Brian Downey and Gary would later join forces as part of Gary's last touring band. Brian has told me that Gary had a voracious appetite for music of any kind, anything to inform his own playing and musical sensibilities be it jump blues or Jazz flute. It was a sad day when Gary passed , but he has left behind a massive legacy.
