View MoreEvery year throughout the United States children (especially infants) are left unattended in cars for minutes or even hours. Because of the high temperatures that can build up in cars within a short amount of time, any child left alone in a car faces dangerous temperatures that can and often do result in death.
A study measured the temperature inside motor vehicles when the outside temperature was between 72 and 96 degrees Fahrenheit. The study determined that a motor vehicle's interior temperature can rise 19 degrees after only 10 minutes, 34 degrees in half an hour and 43 degrees in 60 minutes.
When exposed to this kind of heat, a person's body attempts to regulate its own temperature through responses such as sweating. Serious harm can happen to anyone left in a closed car on a hot day, even if the windows are slightly rolled down.
