We call this "The Compound" for a reason.
I'd die for these people. 15 years ago, we were strangers. Now we're tighter than family.
The whole valley is the same way.
Skagway is infused with the American spirit, bred from the blood of pioneers, warriors, and patriots. We honor that by keeping our downtown in historic condition, our Ore and shipping and fishing and engineering specifically Skagway oriented.
People come to see how we do life and feel that feeling we share through our interactions every single day. People pay A LOT of money, and cruise lines are dying to send us as many as possible, to the tune of 2 million in one summer. It's not uncommon to fill a gallon jug with tips in 3 hours. Every 3 hours. Money is injected into our little 800-1200 population every year. That's why people are buying apartments, and building complexes, and trying to expand our housing so families will want to settle here and bring their dreams, and plans, and skills to better our town as the world falls apart.
Final note: TS wouldn't make it one summer in this battlefield. We're literally living America's founding struggles and finding ways to do it while strengthening our ties to our neighbors.
