Gretchen Whitmer (Michigan):

Offered Micron Technology a tax incentive package totaling about $27.9 billion (including 50-year property-tax abatements).
The company chose New York instead.
Authorized deals giving Ford’s Marshall battery plant about $1 billion and other large packages.
Whitmer has authorized $6.9 billion in subsidies since 2019
Kathy Hochul (New York):

Gave Micron’s Clay/Syracuse project $2.2–$5.5 billion in tax credits for early phases, plus local sales-tax exemptions and PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) property-tax deals.

How it works:
➡️Counties and states compete for companies by temporarily cutting property taxes and sales taxes or handing out cash grants so a factory or headquarters lands in their area instead of a rival’s.
➡️In Texas, which has no state income tax, the main tools have been:
➡️Chapter 312 city/county abatements (up to 10 years), and
➡️The expired Chapter 313 school-tax value limitations (10 years)
➡️The company still pays taxes:
🔷️property taxes on land and buildings
🔷️The Texas franchise/margin tax, and
🔷️Non-exempt sales taxes.
🔷️Employees generate sales taxes, Property taxes on homes, and payroll-related taxes.
🔷️Employers pay unemployment and other payroll taxes.
Over time, the investment raises local property values and creates supplier spending.
Republicans and free-market analysts say broad tax cuts should apply to every business and would be a bigger benefit than just the tax breaks for large corporations.

#News Senate Majority Leader John Thune has announced he will seek re-election as the Republican leader next week, despite repeated criticism that he blocked President Trump's priorities, refused to bring a vote on the SAVE Act, and left 700 House-passed bills sitting on his desk.

Democrats flipped at least six or seven seats, including in deep-red states, and are projected to hold 54 or more seats once all the races are called.
Many blame Thune for not following through on Trump's agenda and the people's mandate, which led to empty promises that left voters upset.
Thune, 65, became Majority Leader in November 2024 after a contested race to succeed Mitch McConnell.

“We need action; we need leadership toward that action, and I’m interested to see, working with the rest of our caucus, what options we’ve got.
El-Sayed said he did not yet know who else may be looking to get the leadership job.
This is not new. During the Democratic primary, El-Sayed publicly backed Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen as a potential majority leader and said at a July campaign event that if he had anything to do with it, Van Hollen would be next.
He also said “If you’re Chuck Schumer, I’m dangerous”
The Senate Majority PAC, closely aligned with Schumer, committed about $30 million to the Michigan general election, including an additional $10 million announced in September - which went to El-Sayed.
El Sayed said he wants money out of politics, but he also hosted high-dollar fundraisers, including with donors such as George Soros.
