"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."
When we talk of a Father in heaven that is not of this world. This verse is what I think of, it the one where Jesus tells us to turn the other cheek. Others believe an eye for an eye. But not God.
Matthew 5:38-40
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’[a] 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well.
When evil comes we are to still show the love of Christ. That is almost an impossible task with our human response or natural response. We need Gods help and Jesus to even think of being successful at such a task as these verses. My response is not always of love because I was taught to stand up for myself. I even taught my kids that way. But truth be told it was wrong in Gods eyes. I needed to teach them some people are just mean and walk away. They don’t need to respond to hate or meanness. Now there is a season for everything. Even to stand up and fight. But our first response should not be that. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 read it to see the seasons.
We are to love always and if that means we have to take one for the team we do it. Why? Because it’s the will of God. We do his will not our own. Amen.
May God bless you always
