He needs to take it in and have it test. Look up water testing. They are all over. People with wells have their water tested now now and then. We need to know what’s in that.

Very pure water can be chilled below freezing. Once it's disturbed it'll Instantly freeze. It can be heated above boiling point also, especially in microwave.
