When did "gate" become a legitimate suffix? It really was originally the last half of the name of a hotel made famous by a Nixon scandal involving a robbery of sensitive papers.

I'm afraid this is going to go far wider and deeper than anyone can imagine. I hope there are enough people with substance, character, and ethics to complete this.
