In the tapestry of human history, some threads run deep, intertwining generations and weaving stories that, while ancient, are incredibly alive. I am proud to share one such story from my own lineage – a melody echoing from the lands of Cornwall and Devon, birthed from the heart of the ancient Dumnonii tribes.
The Dumnonii were a Celtic tribe, their roots firmly planted in what we now recognize as Cornwall and Devon in Southwest England. The intricate details of their existence span across the mists of time, leaving us with tantalizing glimpses of a people deeply connected to their land. They thrived in a world where the mystical landscape, with its rugged cliffs, lush moorlands, and roaring seas, shaped their daily lives. To the Dumnonii, the world was a tapestry of spirits and energies; ancient stones whispered tales of yore, and sacred groves were places of worship and celebration.
My Cornish ancestors, direct descendants of the Dumnonii, embarked on a new chapter in the Americas during the 1600s. They carried with them not just hopes for a new world but the rich legacy of a world they left behind. While I have not yet set foot on Cornish soil myself, the pull of ancestry is undeniable, an ethereal umbilical cord that tugs at the soul.
"Dance of the Dumnonii" is my tribute to this legacy. It's a song crafted from the depths of my being, seeking to channel the spirit, the beliefs, the essence of the Dumnonii. While I stand on the shoulders of these ancient Celts, this song is not just for the past – it is a bridge, connecting centuries, celebrating the enduring spirit of the Dumnonii and their descendants, like me, scattered across the world.
