///@natalia13reagan: Behold! Like Shakira said, “hips don’t lie”. And neither do super duper old hips! Did you know that saber-toothed cats suffered from hip dysplasia?! Yes! Thanks to 3-D scanning done at LA’s very own Cedars Sinai hospital, researchers now know that some of these extinct big cats were born with painful hip dysplasia, which would have made it difficult for them to hunt. Some saber-toothed cats may have even walked with a limp. However, many of these injured cats survived to be adults, which means they probably got by with a little help from their friends! So why is this discovery so darn cool?! For years scientist thought that these cats were solitary hunters, but now it looks like saber-toothed cats lived in groups— like a pack of wolves! This is an example of how the fossil record can give scientists clues about how a species lived in the past! This HIP new exhibit can be found at the Page museum @thelabreatarpits. Be sure to check it out at your next visit to Los Angeles as part of your #sabertoothedsummer!
