Fort Jefferson is on an #island located about 70 miles #west of Key West. It was used as a war fort and also a prison during the Civil War era. Among its most famous prisoners was Dr. Samuel Mudd. Today #FortJefferson is a well-known tourist attraction and has some of the best #snorkeling and #birdwatching in #Florida along with the great #history of the fort.
