SelfishnessPhilippians 2:4 - “Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”Though the words selfish or selfishness are not found in the Bible, there are many verses that teach us that being selfish is not a characteristic of Christ or the Christian.Our verse today sums up the ministry of Jesus Christ. He came not for His own self but for others. Philippians 4:7 tells He “made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant…”Jesus said in Mark 10:45 - “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”Why is it that there is so much selfishness within the body of Christ?Think of it: if church members were not selfish there would not be divisions in churches; there would never be a missionary or mission work or church that lacked for funding; married couples would work out all their differences and problems; sibling rivalry wouldn’t exist. This just calls out a few existing problems because of selfishness.How do you think things would be in the church if every church member took Christ at His Word (Mark 8:34, 35) and denied himself, took up his cross, and followed Him?How do you think it would be if Christians would lose themselves for Christ sake and the gospel’s?Too often the only person the Christian ever thinks about is their own self.Do you think you are selfish?
