The Church Will PrevailMatthew 16:16-18“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”Simon/Peter must have felt good about himself after this proclamation and promotion given to him by the Lord. Whatever feelings of good that Peter had about himself were short lived. We read just a few verses later where the Lord sharply rebuked Peter for being minded towards the things that be of man instead of the things that be of God. This episode in Peter’s life reminds me that the church and its success is not based on Peter or any man, but Jesus Christ Himself!We read in the Bible of Peter’s often failures and sins. I also know in my own heart and life and ministry of serving God that I too have failed the Lord. Think about your own failures. The success of the Church is not based on man’s success but the promises of God. The Church of the living God will prevail! God will build and He currently is building His Church and though all Hell may be against it, it shall prevail! Amen.
