Marbled Snowflake Sugar Cookies Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Cookies:
2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract (optional)
1/4 tsp salt
For the Royal Icing:
3 cups (375g) powdered sugar
2 tbsp meringue powder
5–6 tbsp water
Blue and white gel food coloring
Instructions:
Prepare the Dough:
In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using). Mix well.
Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until the dough forms. Do not overmix.
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
Bake the Cookies:
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.
Use snowflake-shaped cookie cutters to cut out cookies and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let cool completely.
Make the Royal Icing:
In a mixing bowl, whisk the powdered sugar, meringue powder, and 5 tbsp of water. Add more water, a few drops at a time, until the icing reaches a flood consistency.
Divide the icing into two bowls. Tint one with blue gel food coloring and leave the other white.
Create the Marbled Effect:
Pipe a thin outline of white icing on the cookies and flood the centers with more white icing.
Add small drops or lines of blue icing on the wet white icing. Use a toothpick to swirl and create the marbled effect.
Allow the icing to set completely (approximately 4-6 hours).
Decorate and Serve:
Once the icing is dry, optionally sprinkle edible glitter or powdered sugar for an extra frosty effect.
Serve or package as gifts for a festive winter treat!
Enjoy your beautifully marbled snowflake cookies!
