On this day in 1983, Metallica released their debut album, KILL 'EM ALL (a.k.a Metal Up Your Ass). In case you've been hiding under a rock for the past 40 years, let it be known that THIS is where it all began! Clocking-in at just over 51 minutes in length, Kill 'Em All is widely considered to be responsible for bringing the Bay Area thrash scene into the national spotlight. Dave Mustaine's untimely dismissal on April 11, 1983 gave the band an opportunity to nab Kirk Hammett from Exodus, who had quietly been given an invitation to audition for the band 10 days earlier. The foursome entered the studio one month later and recorded Kill 'Em All in a mere 17 days, rightfully giving Mustaine co-writing credits on The Four Horsemen, Jump in the Fire, Phantom Lord, and Metal Militia. And even though it's impossible to find a bad song on the album, the real gem is undoubtedly found in Cliff Burton's incendiary bass solo, (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth.
