Our Founding Fathers were brilliant men. Some of their speeches and comments are so applicable to today. From time to time, I’ll be sharing some excerpts from a book (The Founding Fathers’ Speech To A Nation In Distress, by Steven Rabb). For example:“The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemptions of the citizens from foreign bias and prejudice; and on a love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education and family.” - Alexander HamiltonAlso:“For you are citizens, by birth OR choice, of a common country, and that country has a right to concentrate your affection.” -George Washington.The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations…..the independence and liberty you possess are the works of joint councils, and joint efforts—of common dangers, sufferings and successes.” - S. RabbIn reading this book, it seems to me we truly are a Nation in distress. Many have forgotten the phrase “United we stand. Divided we fall.” We’re falling!
