The gunman was identified as Willis Thomas Jr., 31. Thomas was killed by police. Also fatally shot by Thomas was Parrie's co-worker, Nakie James Brown, 48. Brown was a black male. Reports say Thomas had been fired from his job at a Harvey shipyard and returned where he shot and killed Parrie and Brown. He died in a gunfight with police at his apartment, reports say.
