How can tension ruin your playing? Here are a few ways:
1. It makes everything you play sound harsh. You know those stories about how beginners squeak amd squawk on the violin? This is why.
2. It makes you get tired more quickly, reducing the amount of time and focus you can give to your music.
3. It opens you up to the possibility of injury. Tension does this in every part of your life, but carpal tunnel is a real risk.
I take the time to help my students learn to play in a relaxed manner, with as little tension as possible. They learn to play more freely and enjoy music ? in a way they couldn't otherwise.
