Pure democracy is another name for mob rule. Ask the Frenchmen (mostly from the middle and upper classes actually) who brought about the French Revolution how that worked out for them. Not too well once the mob had pushed them aside and taken power. The US is a representative republic governed by a written constitution. That's the only form of government that will protect the rights of minorities. We need a Senate with two representatives from each state. We need the electoral college. It is in these institutions that the little guy gets his say. Without them, anarchy.
