Thirty liberal Democratic representatives in the lower house of Congress have drafted a collective letter to the president. In the letter, they urged Joe Biden to radically change his policy on the war in Ukraine and begin direct negotiations with Russia."If there is a way to end the war while preserving a free andindependent Ukraine, America has an obligation to use every diplomatic opportunity to reach a solution acceptable to the world and to the people of Ukraine. Such terms would presumably include incentives to end hostilities, including the easing of sanctions, and the international community joining forces to establish security guarantees for a free and independent Ukraine," the parliamentarians said in their letter. The parliamentarians point out that the Russian war in Ukraine "increases the risk of nuclear war, the escalation of hostilities in Ukraine and deepens global economic instability."The Democrat group stresses that the alternative to negotiations is a protracted war. In addition to directly harming the people of Ukraine, it affects tens of millions of people.According to lawmakers, Biden should supplement U.S. military and economic support to Ukraine with active diplomatic pressure. In their letter, the parliamentarians referred to the president's statement that the conflict "must be resolved through negotiations.
