HUMANOIDS
(Not to be confused with hemorrhoids but a pain in the ass nonetheless.)
Last Friday I was watching 'Friday Night Frights' on the Movies! TV Network. They ran the classic "The Time Machine" and after working on projects all day. I was too tired I just wanted to chill a bit and go to bed… But that's not what this is about.
"Frights" is plural. The next flick was "The Creation of the Humanoids" from 1962. Released 60 years ago! Two things at the outset of the film caught my attention. First a global nuclear war decimated the entire world population. And then I heard them talking about "credits" as opposed to dollars. I instantly thought of crypto currency called "credits", these new implants where they inject a capsule just under the skin in your hand to make payments by simply scanning your hand which contains not only your banking data but everything else about you, and, of course, government monitoring of what you do, where you're at, what you buy. And remember this movie was released 60 years ago.
To compensate for this nuclear holocaust and decimate population, lower birth rates with half of them being radiation affected mutants, The world turned to automation resulting in humanoids to do the work of deceased humans. Robots programmed to obey and work. Obviously a sign of trouble when you have human mad scientists wanting to take them to the highest levels… Human. And that is when Mr. Sleep caught up with me.
At any rate, I was determined to see the entire movie, wide awake and, most importantly, free! So the first place I checked for streaming was Pluto.tv. Because it's free! I clicked the 'On Demand' button, typed in the title, and there it was. Pluto is free but does have some commercials, nothing as bad as broadcast TV or even non-premium cable channels.
For those unfamiliar with Pluto. The Fire TV/Amazon app does not give you all of Pluto's channels or the on demand so you either watch it on the computer or do what we did. Which was to use the Miracast built into Windows 11 and streamed it on the Fire TV wirelessly.
And, as God is my witness, some of those humanoids bear a striking resemblance to some of the very rich people running, or having run, some of the big tech giants we have today.
