You have heard the phrase "what's old is new again". I have been feeling uneasy for awhile. The current congressional investigations, as well as the threatened investigations if the other political party gets the majority, are chilling. The investigations harken back to The House Committee on Un-American Activities. This committee was first formed in 1938 to investigate alleged disloyalty and subversive activities by citizens, government employees, and organizations of having ties with either communist or facists. In 1946 it became a permanent committee and became more focused on the investigation of communism in American society and government. The committee was finally disbanded in 1975 with it's duties being transferred to The Judiciary Committee. Yes, the committee was formed to shine a spotlight on foreign threats to the country. The committee continuously expanded its scope looking into a broad range of other political organizations. The committee ended up fostering political paranoia towards those SUSPECTED of holding contrary political views. It is time to realize that regardless of your personal views those in power (at any given time) will attempt to marginalize you, make you the enemy. Yes, the Constitution provides you with individual safeguards but in order for those protections to be enforced the Supreme Court must be separate and apart from the politics of the day. If rulings are based on ever changing political interpretations it will be the same as building your home on a foundation of sand. Always shifting and never secure
