Psalmus XXXI:VI Psalm 31 foreshadows the suffering of Jesus during His Passion. Verse 6 below (while written by King David some 1000 years beforehand) prophetically gives us what Jesus would later say (even if silently). Now ask yourself this as you read that verse below: who do you think Jesus was describing with the words "observantes vanitates supervacuas?" I say He was describing the religious leaders of His day: the scribes, the Pharisees and the Sadducees. And we have the same kinds of hypocritical and heretical religious leaders today: pusillanimous priests, bishops and cardinals who prey on the sheep while they give the Body of Christ - the Church - to Caesar. Remember what the chief priests said to Pontius Pilate in John 19:15: "Non habemus regem, nisi Caesarem.""We have not a king except Caesar." That's the USCCB and the Vatican! Christ uses a very strong word against such clerics, both ancient and modern: "odisti." He wasn't "Mr. Nice Guy." Odisti observantes vanitates supervacuas, ego autem in Domino speravi. I have hated [those] heeding [observing, obeying] pointless [vacuous] vanities, I however have hoped in the LORD [Yahweh]. Vanitates supervacuas - that's the precise phrase which accurately describes the current state of the majority of clergy in the Roman Catholic Church. And sadly, you Protestant Evangelicals and Pentecostals aren't far behind us Catholics, for Romans 3:10 states: "Non est iustus quisquam.""There is not anyone righteous [just]."
