Moral Relativism or Objective Truth?
This morning's OT reading is an excerpt from Isaiah chapter 50, but having read the entirety of the chapter, I came across the last two verses - ten and eleven - which soundly refute the modernist philosophy of "I'm ok, you're ok," and "what's true for me may not be true to you." I checked the Latin Vulgate and four different English translations, three Protestant and one Catholic, to ensure my understanding was correct. The gist of these verses is this: even if everything around you is dark right now, as long as you hope in God's name and rest on Him, it'll be ok. But if you make your own torch to light the way, you will rest in sorrow.
10 Quis ex vobis timet Dominum,
audiens vocem servi sui?
Qui ambulavit in tenebris,
et non est lumen ei,
speret in nomine Domini
et innitatur super Deum suum.
11 Ecce vos omnes, qui accenditis ignem,
accincti sagittis,
ambulate in lumine ignis vestri
et in sagittis, quas succendistis.
De manu mea factum est hoc vobis;
in doloribus recumbetis.
10 Who among you fears the Lord
and obeys the voice of his servant,
who walks in darkness
    and has no light,
yet trusts in the name of the Lord
    and relies upon his God?
11 But all of you are kindlers of fire,
    lighters of firebrands.
Walk in the flame of your fire,
and among the brands that you have kindled!
This is what you shall have from my hand:
you shall lie down in torment.
