I remember being frightened by spring weather when I was growing up in the Midwest. The first tornado I have any memory of was when I was 2 or 3. It touched down within a couple of blocks of our house. The mothers in the neighborhood set up a picnic in the front yard. Fathers came flying home from work to find us all playing games. When I was maybe 5, I can remember Mom standing with me on the front porch as a tornado tore thru the corn field across the street.Today, the local weather people are salivating at the mere thought of a slight chance of severe weather. I believed that my Mom was a little crazy when it came to weather. She refused to take any precautions. As I have gotten older I have a better understanding of her actions. She wasn't "tempting fate" instead she was standing on her faith, trying to teach her children by actions rather than words. Have to admit, a little explanation would have helped!Somewhere along the way we forgot to teach using examples as well as an explanation. Do what you can, where you are, using what you have. Keep researching, be an example by speaking up and prepare. Oh by the way, take cover if you see a tornado!
