Have you heard of Investigate Europe? It is a group of journalists from several European countries who work together on a single story. They decided to investigate the number of licenses (general authority for arms deals) issued to EU members for export to Russia between 2014 and 2020. Truly a fascinating read!In 2014 the EU agreed to place an embargo on sales of military goods to Russia in retaliation for Crimea. They gave a loophole for deals negotiated before the embargo. Since that time they have granted 1000 licenses to 10 members totaling $381,800,000.00 (US $). Those nations are France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic Croatia, Finland, Slovakia and Spain! 8 out of 10 of those nations are also members of NATO. France (1949), Germany (1952), Italy (1949), Bulgaria (2004), Czech Republic (1999), Croatia (2009), Slovakia (2004), and Spain (1982). In 2008 Bush pushed for membership for Georgia and Ukraine. By the way, did you know that Ukraine was the 2nd largest exporter of weapons to Russia? These countries have provided ice breaking ships, chemical agents, biological agents, riot control agents, radioactive material, tanks etc.Let's think about history. NATO was originally formed in 1949 in order to secure peace in Europe, promote cooperation among members, and guard freedom in the context of countering the threat of the Soviet Union. In 1954 Khrushchev sent Letters of Intent to join, he was turned down. In 2001 Putin wanted to join but didn't want to apply for membership. His pride wouldn't allow his country to wait in line. At the time he believed Russia was a European country. Again, I am questioning a whole lot of the mess we are witnessing! It keeps coming back to money doesn't it.Europe doesn't really want to cut off sales because, well, ...After all aren't they promoting cooperation and financial benefits to NATO member states. Keep seeking the truth in all of this fog, keep questioning and speaking, keep preparing!
