Nicodemus that you read about in John 3 was of the Judean sect a Pharisee. The translators in many versions used the word “Jews” instead of the Greek word “Ioudaioi”. So the word used should’ve been “Judeans” instead of “Jews”. These judeans were the so called political & religious elites of Israel and it was these elites who worked in alliance with the Roman government powers to keep their own power and keep the people under control & ignorant(not taught). So don’t be so suprised that many of these same so called politicians & religious leaders of religion are called elites and conduct themselves not as servants to serve , but thrive on being served & many act as if they are gods!
