Pelosi-Robespierre and the January 6 “Conspiracy”Nancy Pelosi seems to be channeling Maximilien Robespierre these days. And her January 6 Committee is looking more and more like Robespierre’s bloodthirsty Committee of Public Safety during the Reign of Terror of the French Revolution, charging its enemies with conspiracy and sending them off to the guillotine. The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol has been issuing subpoenas and dispensing dark warnings about a nefarious coup plot by President Trump and his followers, but it is not the least bit interested in following any of the steadily accruing evidence that whatever violence occurred on that day was initiated and egged on by federal agents provocateurs.When Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks on the floor of the House of Representatives on May 19, 2021 in support of legislation to create a bipartisan national commission to investigate the events of January 6, she declared, “Creating this Commission sends a resounding message to terrorists, both at home and abroad: The commitment of the United States Congress to the Constitution and to the American people is unshakeable.”Ah, yes, the Constitution; everyone knows about Pelosi’s “unshakeable” commitment to the Constitution. It should be remembered that Robespierre was a member of the vicious Jacobin Club, whose official name was Society of the Friends of the Constitution. And they carried out many horrible crimes in the name of their constitution.Predictably (as if by plan, or maybe a conspiracy?), the usual media choir immediately began hymning the need for such a 9/11-style commission. And, mirabile dictu, a “bipartisan” coalition of 140 “national security leaders” popped up to support the call. The plan from the start was to create both a weapon and a process that could be wielded against Donald Trump and his supporters. The Russia collusion hoax didn’t work. The Mueller hoax didn’t work. The nonstop media smear didn’t work. The first and second impeachment attempts didn’t work. The election steal finally worked — but the thieves were caught in the act and tens of millions of angry Americans are determined to see that this crime is undone. So, Pelosi, Schumer, and company settled on a weaponized January 6 commission to prevent any Trump comeback. Thankfully, Republicans in the Senate refused to rubber-stamp the scheme. Not to be stymied, however, in June Pelosi pushed through H.R. 503 establishing the House Select Committee. “January 6th was one of the darkest days in our nation’s history,” she stated. “It is imperative that we establish the truth of that day and ensure such an attack cannot again happen.” Pelosi insisted she wanted this to be a fair, bipartisan effort, but then exposed herself by rejecting Representatives Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.), two of the five GOP candidates nominated for the committee. Her peremptory rejection caused the Republicans to back out of what was to be an obvious sham. But the sham must go on, so Pelosi appointed Representatives Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) and Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), the two most notorious Trump-hating RINOs in the House, to give the committee a fig leaf of bipartisanship. Cheney is performing as expected, most recently reading out the nothingburger January 6 texts between Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows, Jim Jordan, Sean Hannity, and others as if they were smoking guns. Naturally, the presstitutes of the controlled media ate it up and regurgitated it endlessly. Appearing on MSNBC, the Washington Post’s Jacqueline Alemany noted that “it is more powerful coming from a fellow Republican, Liz Cheney reading these messages out loud and putting her colleagues on notice.”The Pelosi-Cheney cabal had no reprimands or censures for January 6 Committee member Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) after he was caught having blatantly doctored a text message between Meadows and Jordan in his presentation to the committee. Representative Schiff, who is well known for lying and leaking fabrications to his allies in the media, was caught, it may be recalled, trying to frame Donald Trump, Jr. with bogus Russia-collusion e-mails and falsifying a transcript of a telephone call between Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.Now Pelosi, Schiff, and Cheney are trying to gut the First Amendment and chill freedom of expression and assembly by subpoenaing private phone records and subpoenaing citizens who attended the January 6 rally but had nothing to do with the violence at the Capitol. Yet they refuse to subpoena FBI and DOJ officials to answer questions regarding the evidence that it was federal agents provocateurs posing as Trump supporters who instigated the January 6 mayhem. Pelosi & Co. would do well to reflect on the fact that once Robespierre and his fellow Jacobins had destroyed the rule of law (while pretending to defend it), they themselves became victims of the monster they created. The revolution always eats itself, as they say.
