A CONCEPT NOTE FOR A COMMUNITY BASED YOUTH PROJECTTITLE: ADOLESCENTS AND YOUTH FRIENDLY SERVICES POST PANDEMIC.Section a: adolescents and youth friendly services in social service centres and community post pandemic. Background; The young people are categorized into a number of stages of growth and development right from birth upto transition into adulthood. However, through out all these stages, the adolescents and youth commonly known as teenagers that stretch from the age of 9 to 18 or sometimes upto early 20s are known to be the most flagile to a number of social tragedies and abuse which can be inflicted on them by fellow youth or sometimes irresponsible adults of the society as they are always inquisitive to discover themselves as young people. Some of these traps include; all forms of sexual abuse like rape, incest, indecent assault, teenage pregnancy, being forced into early marriage, provision of basic needs for gain, physical and psychological trauma, deprivation of basic life provisions and need such as basic guidance, giving a listening ear to their societal challenges, education among othes. All these leaves the children wounded either spiritually, psychologically or physically and drags them into a life of depression or sever discomfort in society which can only be intercepted by giving them hope through mature talk or sometimes going extra miles to provide for them some basic needs that lack of such could have pushed them to the walls of life. The global pandemic experience has multiplied these problems beyond what has ever been realized and thus increasing the need to actively involve the society in holding the hands of the young people and helping them overcome the effect, trauma, stigma and pain of such abuses that could end up completely destroying their resourcefulness to the globe. As Andy Kind Heart Foundation , we have come up with initiative of establishing and integrating comprehensive adolescents and youth friendly services in our work plan and as well reach out the community as far as we can afford to, look for this traumatised children, diagnose their social challenge and figure out how to help them out with a consensus from both the children and the parents. The scope of the project:The project has have its operational base in butebi, mityana but covers the victims of abuse in all the Districts of Uganda to meet the projected impact to the benefitiaries. Section B: Project justification. What is the actual problem?Statistically, in the year 2020 Uganda police force annual crime report indicate that; 14,230 children were defiled; girls (14,080) mainly bore the brunt. The statistics also revealed that 1,280 defilement victims were children under eight of age. A further 2,980 minors aged between 9 and 14 were also abused. The report further indicates that 120 children were defiled by their parents and several hundreds by relatives and other thousands and thousands by strangers. Teenage pregnancy and school drop out has been regidtered in the highest number compared to the past decades in the recent times. The statistics above is far less compared to the actual reality on ground as a majority of the victims do not report their casaes to the police either due to threat from the victim or fear of stigma from the society. In the aftermath of the abuse, these victims contract urinary tract infections, organ damages, sexually transmitted diseases, early pregnancy, others perforn unsafe abortion , others are forced into child marriages and all these needs intervention either therapeutic treatment and counseling or basic provision for teenage mothers. Those who emerged out of the abuse without visible damage has got a torn sould and a woundes heart with a traumatised mind that needs to be identified wheather from villsges, schools, churches, health centres or wherever possible and be offered a rehabilitation service to get over the incidence and be focused to their life goals with ease. That is why we are initiating this project post pandemic to penetrate the communities deeply, identify these people and help them coup up with whatever abuses they have gone through and their impacts in their lives.Section C: Active components of the projectBenefitiaries; The project is aimed at supporting the adolescents and youth of the society who experienced difficulties in life as a result of the pandemic amongst which include;-sesually abused children-teenage mothers-under age pregnant mothers-school drop out-children newly diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases with history of abuse-depressed children with history of abuse-children born to teenage parents during the pandemic-children orphaned due to the pandemic-families where victims of abuse are foundObjectives:-To reduce incedences of child abuse of all forms in society-To help victims of child abuse during the pandemic coup up with normal life-To help teenage mothers and their children find a living-To hold the hands of traumatized children-To create awareness of child abuse in society-To encourage victims of child abuse to open up-To give medical and psychosocial treatment to abused children-To offer post abortion care to victims post pandemic-To advocate for child protection-To advocate for and create a children safe and friendly societyActivities:We are looking forward to conducting a number of activities aimed at identifying sexually abused children, treating them, rehabilitating them from effects of abuse in their lives, providing them with basic needs and creating awareness of child abuse as we advocate for a child safe society. These activities shall include;-Youth sexual and reproductive health conferences-Establishing adolescent and youth friendly service spot at various health centres-Door to door home visit and screening children for abuse-Establishing a 24/7 call centre for child abuse help-School visit, group counseling and secreet sharing of individual challenges-Printing child abuse literature sheets/books-Establishing community partnership and linkage points-Health and hygiene training for children-Escape and safety skills training of children from child abuse Expected outcome:This project is expected to have a mega impact in the society post pandemic as far as recovery from after effects of child abuse is concerned and child protection from futher abuse in the society. The following shall be the direct impact of the project in the society;-Over 14,500 children and more shall receive post abuse counseling and help-About 7,000 children shall be treated from health impacts following abuse-Over 12,000 teenage mothers shall receive rehabilitation together with their children-There shall be a remarkable reduction in depression among children-Thousands of children shall regain hope as we offer a listening ear and solution to their problems-Numerous families and children shall recover from societal stigma of child abuse-Over 3,000,000 children with lost hope of resuming school shall be encouraged to do so-Thousands of children shall receive scholastic materials support to resume school.Implementation work plan and budgeting:We have a good number of experienced staff both technical and support staff to handle the project implementation in planned phases. We kindly appeal to any of you generous friends, interested in helping with the youth needs to kindly support us meet the budget to urgently start off with the project.Donations go through PayPal to : kindheartorphanage1@gmail.com or Visit: www.andykindheartfoundation.org You can write to us to inquire more about the project through email: info@andykindheartfoundation.org Thank you!
