This is what I consider to be one of the finest records in my library. The Crickets, "Dreams And Wishes" / "When I Met You". Released in July of 1953, this was the first record released on Joe Davis' new Jay-Dee label. Both tunes feature very smooth, soft harmonies.
The Crickets were Rodney Jackson (bass), Harold Johnson (tenor and guitar), Dean Barlow (lead), Eugene Stapleton (tenor) and Leon Carter (baritone). The Crickets are were absolutely the smoothest R&B group I've heard.
The Crickets were from the Morrisania section of the Bronx, NY and had made their debut at Harlem's Apollo Theater on a bill with Ruth Brown and the Sonny Stitt jazz combo. Jay-Dee Records had released only thirty-four singles in it's short tenure, but was very successful.
