As my birthday approaches, I have been thinking back over the adventure that is my life.
In my soon to be 28 years on this planet, I have been to 33 states, lived in 14, on one working ranch, then two grocery stores, 4 different boats, one RV, one converted school bus, and one converted Greyhound bus. In doing all of that, I have met people from all over the world, and gleaned as much knowledge along the way as I could. Including the fact nobody believes what I just said. It used to bother me, now I just laugh and walk away. It's not my job to prove it. Take it or leave it, It's my story not anyone else's.
Some of the other things I've learned Include
no matter where you go, people are basically the same. Different accents, and ways they do things, but as long as you respect them they will respect you.
You are as happy as you want to be, no matter where you go. If you don't want to be happy, you won't find it anywhere.
Another big thing I've learned is, people from cities don't have a clue about rural life !
I've lived in both, and choose rural country life.
I have found large cities have turned into pits of misery, name one and do some research on it. You'll find high crime rates, lack of fresh food, and a populus that's stuck. They make the best of it, try to be happy raising their families, and wish they could get out of the rat race. Then a new hotshot politician comes in and promises the moon yet delivers nothing.
Because the status quo works for them, it keeps them in office and gives them power.
I live about 60 miles from the pit of misery called Charlotte NC. The big news is the 2040 city plan. One thing in it is eliminating the single family zoning in favor of duplex, triplex, and quadraplexes. It's not sitting well with most citizens, but the politicians are trying to run it through anyway, because it will give them more population and therefore more power and taxes.
That will in turn run a lot of people out of Charlotte to a smaller city nearby called Monroe, which is already turning into a bedroom community of Charlotte. Before long, people from Monroe will move to my county area, and start building it up into a city. Politicians will jump on it knowing they will get more power, and the cycle will continue. I know it won't happen for another 15-20 years, but it will happen. Luckily for me, I've got this bus conversion thing down pretty good...
