Raising livestock is hard yall... seriously it is. Not necessarily just physically but mentally. I really think the mental game is the hardest for most farmers & ranchers just because of the complete stress of it all.Somedays just royally suck and there's only so much you can do. Last week we had quite a not so fun week. Went out to feed one morning and found this little dude dead, randomly. So we adjusted, got him out (so thankful for equipment) and hauled off. We couldn't figure out what the heck it was from, we initially thought intertoxemia (bloat) but usually it takes quite a bit for them to do this so quickly...plus we watch bloating day/night to catch it early so this doesn't happen! So...ruling out things we just figured he bloated hard randomly and died. Well, then we got looking and a friend came over and pointed out he could've eaten a rock and choked...which is highly probable. So 2 days later, randomly again, had a other steer do exactly the same darn thing...so odd! So got to really paying attention and realized yup it was rocks! Go figure yall! We layed out belting where the feed bunk will be at and guess what....no problems. This is all part of raising livestock, shit happens, figure it out, find ways to fix it and carry on... unfortunately learning the hard way isn't fun and we lost 2 steers.Yes we lost 2 steers, couldn't salvage the meat unfortunately as they were 2 or so hours old and past the time frame to be able to save the meat. It happens yall, it really really sucks, but welcome to the livestock world...its not pretty all the time, quite frankly at least half of it is messy. We wouldn't trade this life for the world though, and ya live & learn. We learned something new, fixed it and hopefully that's it for a while.
