Larry Brandt a very sad truth.
When I worked as a manager in healthcare, particularly during my years in long term care, we almost always had viruses come through and sicken our elderly residents. Many passed away from whatever the seasonal flu strain happened to be, Norwalk virus, and other respiratory illnesses, despite our best efforts to quarantine them during outbreaks and keep them safe. My comments are not to make light of the situation we have seen this year, just to try to inject some context. Not once in my 36 year career did we shut down the economy. We *never* quarantined healthy people; we asked them not to visit grandma. And, in reviewing total death stats for the last 3 years, 2020 is not remarkable at all, our death count in Canada is virtually on par with the previous 2 years.
It seems to me that there has been a lot of handwringing from people and groups that didnt give a damn about the elderly in any of the previous 36 years I've been in the system. No hue and cry.
And just like in previous years, we're not seeing any injection of funding to long term care, which has always been poorly funded by government agencies. The hypocrisy of the loudest in the public and those in government, is appalling.
