If you've been on Facebook (AKA) Zuckerbook for years, you've been treated to a wonderful way to communicate with family and friends. If your experience is like mine, it has been a delightful way to make new friends and share humor, photos, and opinion. Many of us have been able to stay in touch with scores or even hundreds of close and internationally distant relatives and friends. It has been so engaging that we didn't mind offering ourselves up as FACEBOOK'S ONLY PRODUCT set.
We are all that Zuckerbook has to sell. We agree to the deal when we check the little box about "terms and conditions." Virtually no user ponies up bucks to have their team of lawyers review and advise them about the terms and conditions. Zuckerbook does have those lawyers. To make social media work efficiently for the parties the US Congress passed Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Most of us are in no position to hire acres of lawyers to analyze the detail of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. We trust the government protected us in a 'Fair and equitable' way.
Life was good and Zuckerbook grew into digital King Kong beefing up with lots on nameless, faceless California-brewed staff. Enter Trump Derangement Syndrome. Wikipedia explains Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) as "a pejorative term for criticism or negative reactions to United States President Donald Trump that are perceived to be irrational, and have little regard towards Trump's actual policy positions, or actions undertaken by his administration." Perceptive readers might see a fair amount of TDS in their article about TDS. TDS is real, and I venture there is an epidemic at Zuckerbook.
Unintentionally or intentionally our good, old friend Facebook morphed into the Facebook Publishing Company. IMO FB is no longer friend of any of us--Democrat nor GOP. They've become a bully with strong links to the NEW Democrat Party. If you think their power is only a threat to the "Evil Orange Man" in the White House, it would be the first time in history.
Write your Senator and Congress Person. Tell them to enforce no publishing provisions of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act. Say it in your own words. They (hopefully) have staff to figure out what you care about: No need for your Legal Team. Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act prohibits their acting as a publisher. They are blatantly in violation. Will DC use this to "help" us with smothering regulation, or simply fine the hell out of the violators? I like the latter.
Please correct me if my understanding here is substantially wrong. However, let's avoid nitpicking.
